this is a romhacking post. giving up on making symmetrical sprites look any good, and trying to figure out a way to reverse-engineer the animation system to make them asymmetrical instead

for Link, symmetrical works, but for this character whose whole defining feature is basically being asymmetrical, uh. it sucks no matter what I do

cool, I just freed up eight full 16x16 asymmetrical sprites, and could probably squeeze another two or so out of the sheet if I had to

it’s working in-engine and everything. kickass

so, we got asymmetrical sprites injected over top of the old animations. now i just have to sprite these out. another night. because i am very tired.

this is definitely going to look substantially better now, though. especially when you spend like 10% of your game time looking at the pushing-against-a-south-wall sprite, it's worth it to put in the work here
