copying over a thread I just did on Twitter

people still going "lol latest Nintendo game looks bad" and not getting that Nintendo has been good at covering up their console's lack of graphical prowess with a really strong art style for a while now

remember that BOTW ran on the goddamn Wii U and still looked incredible

#gameing

like do those trees and grass look like ass? yeah, they sure do but it doesn't matter to 99% of people who want to play that game

if a game has a strong art style and good gameplay loops, people are likely to not give a fuck about the aliased jaggies on the grass my dude

also its fucking Pokemon so it has that going for it as well

like I'm the dude who watches Digital Foundry videos because graphical fidelity tech in video games interests me and I'm also tired of explaining to people the difference between "graphical fidelity" and "good art style"

don't let AAA and MS/Sony marketing fool you, graphical fidelity is not everything when it comes to a game's quality

literally one of the most popular video games ever is Minecraft, come on people

@packetcat I always like to mention when people talk about things like this, games like Ōkami and Wind Waker, games whose strong art style makes them still look excellent even decades after release

whereas any game that hinged on graphical fidelity to look good at the time looks really bad now, even if people thought it was amazing when it came out
