I finished FF13-2. If I'd just not done Oerba 300 and 400 AF I'd probably give the game an entire additional point-of-ten. Ah well.

The pacing is really weird. Because of the open non-linear nature, you're basically left in the dark plot-wise until the very, very end. It's like FF4:TAY except the big reveal at the end of the long string of non-reveals isn't literally the worst thing in any RPG ever.

Actually the final 2 hours is pretty intense, including the post-game bridge to LR:FFXIII they released as DLC.

@trysdyn we've not played TAY, but literally the worst thing in any RPG ever sounds a little dubious when Star Ocean 3 exists

@trysdyn (honestly i don't think star ocean 3 is that bad (it's pretty bad though), it's just fun to make fun of it)

FF4:TAY spoilers, long

@Felthry So I call TAY's plot "The worst thing ever in RPGs" because it has the dubious distinction of not only ruining itself but trying to reach back in time and ruin the plots of prior games.

The short of it is after 40 hours of episodic plot where the end of every episode has the antagonist shows up, steals a crystal, then responds to your characters demanding to know what they're doing with "I don't have to tell you" [sic], you finally figure out what's going on just before the final boss.

What's going on is an alien life form seeded crystals on six planets to see how the crystals change their evolution and now that the experiment is over, they're destroying those worlds.

The six worlds are FF 1 thru 6. The final boss is JUST Zeromus again with a different sprite/name.

No, there are (arguably) no crystals in FF6, but don't let that stop the big bad from his monologue. It's fine. Just ignore that glaring oops.
