I finally went and tried an 8 megabyte ROM in most things I could think of running a SNES game in - including the PC, Wii and 3DS versions of snes9x, zsnes, different versions of bsnes, and sd2snes/fxpak pro.

Everything seems to handle it fine, except for zsnes, but I'm ok with breaking zsnes compatibility if I need the space. It's likely to happen anyway if I do anything particularly fancy. Though there is an alternate zsnes version that should support it but it didn't run the test I tried.

@NovaSquirrel isn't zsnes the one that relies on a ton of game-specific hacks to work, because it was designed to run on 90s computers?

@Felthry Game-specific hacks, several security vulnerabilities, lots of unimplemented things, and it allows you to do lots of things that a real SNES doesn't... last updated in 2007?

It served a purpose in the 90s but I believe no one should be using it in 2022.
