i find it kind of funny how much of europe fought wars over access to intense spices and flavorings and then the instant those spices and flavorings became affordable to the lower classes, all the high society people (especially in france) decided that nope, unspiced food was the *real* good stuff, the blander the better, don't want to be like those *peasants* with their *tasty* food, do you?

I can explain why "typical" UK food is how it is today.

But I never got the obsession with only salt and pepper cooking outside of the UK other than well, exactly that :B

@Felthry this same process also led to the western fixation with big empty lawns of nothing but grass around homes, iirc
