breath of the wild (things I never thought of earlier)

- You can go fishing with shock arrows, thanks to the AOE built in to the "shock arrow hit water/metal" logic. In my head it stuns the fish, but it is most definitely not a stun according to game logic. (Don't overlap the radius of two if there's items that could be affected, I've lost loot that way.)

- Need an updraft and don't have Revali's Gale or don't want to wait for the charge? Three or four campfires all next to each other will do the trick, depending on the weather.

- Don't know if that chest in the ground is real or an octorok? Check with magnesis. If it doesn't glow, ping an arrow off it and nock another for an immediate followup on the confused octo.

- Windcleavers, and to a lesser extent the charged "throw" of the Master Sword when you're at full health, are great for long-range defoliation. Windcleavers in particular can stun-juggle bokoblins, too. (In some forests this may uncover octoroks, so, be advised.)

- Want to get a bunch of apples really quickly? Put down the axe and pick up a hammer. Two smacks on any apple tree will knock all but the most stubborn apples to the ground.

- Want to make a bunch of simple food by cooking apples/hyrule bass/raw meat on a campfire, but don't want to waste time with managing a fire? Head to Goron City, but bring fireproof gear or a couple long-lasting fireproof potions.

- The stealth armor set is my go-to "I'm gathering materials for potions" armor, because stealth bonuses affect your noise level - which is what scares lizards and bugs away from you.

- Flame and frost enchanted weapons are incredibly useful survival tools. They provide heat or cooling, as appropriate, and you can use flame weapons to start campfires anywhere it's not raining- even slim cliff overhangs. Frost can't keep you from catching fire in Death Mountain's heat, but it can at least let you survive in a desert.

- There's a covered cooking pot in Kakariko Village, if you need to cook and don't want to spend money at the inn. Look for the campfire next to the path into town from the south, it's near there. There's room next to this cooking pot to start a campfire, and the surrounding structure won't catch fire.

@LexYeen Bonus thing about fire weapons: you can melt ice just by standing next to it while holding one

@Felthry Solution: Use fire weapon to start multiple campfires. :thinkhappy:

re: breath of the wild (things I never thought of earlier)

@LexYeen @Felthry We only recently learned Rock Octoroks can sharpen rusty weapons and felt silly we never discovered it before.

re: breath of the wild (things I never thought of earlier)

@Cauda @LexYeen it's hard to discover without just being told, to be fair

it's pretty useful early-game and not very useful late-game because it gives you a completely random weapon in the category, so early-game you have a chance to get a royal broadsword when those are impossible to find but late game you have a chance to get a traveller's sword when you have bucketfuls of royal broadswords

re: breath of the wild (things I never thought of earlier)

@Felthry @Cauda or, like me, your inventory is full of the spoils of multiple successful lynel fights. (look I'm upgrading my gear okay)

re: breath of the wild (things I never thought of earlier)

@LexYeen @Cauda where do the lynels get all this cool stuff anyway, i wanna be a lynel if they get all that (and for other reasons)

re: breath of the wild (things I never thought of earlier)

@Felthry @LexYeen I'll be honest, one of our headmates almost ended up taking form as a Lynel.

I will say there is one time the 50% chance of getting a traveler's item from the rusty weapons can be useful: If you didn't do the weapon collector quest before traveler swords stop regularly spawning in the world.
