Diablo Immortal is worse than we thought

A whale maxed out their DI character. The game revealed a new tier of power creep that the devs kept secret.

If you max rank a 5 Star gem that already took 15k USD in pulls to get, it unlocks 5 more gem slots on your character. Instead of 6 15k pulls, you need 36 to max out.

"It weaponizes Diablo gameplay against anyone with the slightest tendencies toward gambling addiction."

Yes. This. As an avid, borderline addicted Diablolike player who's basically 100%ed every Diablolike besides Time of Magic (that one's just bad, okay), Blizzard's move here borders on criminal cruelty.

@trysdyn this should in no way be legal and moreover shouldn't even be thinkable, this feels like just straight up evil, distilled essence of capitalism

@Felthry The linked thread points out how these aren't just pulls. Each "pull" is in essence a Diablo III rift. Complete with (useless) drops and experience and game loop, more importantly, a forced cooling off so you don't realize you've pulled 15 times today.

It is, and I know exactly what I'm saying when I use this term, psychological warfare.

This is the natural terminus of the acceptability of using psychology as a weapon to monetize other people's existence.
