@bj That feels like something that would work well in a world where currency isn't required, but you can give someone a sign of your appreciation that they did a particularly good job
just because the name feels like it would mean something like that. "plaudit" is the Latin word for "they (sg) praised", after all

It already means that as a normal English word; I was just playing on the idea of something "earning plaudits". But you're right about them making sense in a world where currency isn't required. Maybe you'd spend them to get higher quality versions of things — like, you can go to a restaurant and get ordinary food for free, but if you want things that reviewers have judged as being worth more, you spend plaudits to get those.
