thinking about it, my ideal physical articulation with the world would either be:
- completely touchless/telekinetic by default, or
- fluid and extensible in its physicality

@Felthry heck, i did not! one of my friends has something similar with her stage-magic themed character's disembodied gloves, but i guess she has arms, as well, so it's not quite the same. that's a cool idea :333

@Felthry oh gosh i love that. it would be nice to have that kind of punctuated iteration of embodiment... i think that's part of why i'm still preoccupied with the pack consciousness of the tines from the zones of thought books. i really like the idea of a self distributed across multiple discrete forms

Having multiple bodies to interact with the world with is just, extremely good?
honestly that's where almost all of our kinks come from, is a desire to expand possibilities, to have more agency and to be able to do more things
...also just, being multibodied and being able to cuddle with yourself sounds pretty great honestly

It's a magical researcher, and the disconnected limbs are not normal for its species (though the three legs and three eyes are); they're a result of a magical accident that made it have to learn telekinesis to get around without help

@patchwork also your talking about the tines (a book we still haven't read. should look for it sometime) got me thinking about multibody stuff and the idea of like
bodies, complete with their brains, being something you can just exchange between people. if someone needs to do some electrical work, they could borrow a body with the knowledge and skills to do that from a friend. instead of copying a recipe from a neighbor, ask to borrow one of their bodies that knows how to make it
just, the thought of having people be composites of fractional identities, and being able to swap those fractional identities around... it's a good thought

@Felthry this is a cool idea. like you'd still need to pass down knowledge through generations, but for lateral transfer of capabilities and experiencing different kinds of embodiment, this could be really useful and fun
in a fire upon the deep, the tines are kind of a collection of gestalt entities, and the relative volatility of each pack's membership affects and changes who each gestalt consciousness "is" over time. i think i'd like something like that, where when the constituent components are changed, the corresponding consciousness changes as well, fluidly

...it's not every day we find someone else who appreciates this kind of stuff in the same way I do, sorry i got kinda infodump, wanna-share-all-the-stuff about it
