@Oneironott it's always great to learn stuff you wouldn't otherwise learn! so much interesting stuff out there that you just would never think to look up

@Felthry I also enjoy the repetitious nature of it. I found a similar vibe in like... woodworking? It's really satisfying to know a tool well enough that the process itself is fluid and the rest is just this spiritual experience, to me, of molding and getting to know an individual piece I'd often take for granted.

@Oneironott Yeah! there's a lot to be said for Making Things as a way of relaxing

for us, soldering together a circuit board fills that niche--designing pcbs too, to a slightly lesser extent

@Felthry Yeah, I've really been rediscovering that relaxation myself. I think the bigger reason creative endeavors became so hard to me is because I was thinking about things too much in terms of what other people want and what is lucrative and all this stuff that just sucks the soul right out of things

@Felthry I stopped creating primarily For Me, so I started flat out losing interest. It's been deeply helpful to dissect all that and start making things I want to make

@Oneironott it's hard for us to create that kind of thing For Us... we don't have a lot of good direction on what to make, and it's not exactly cheap. i'd like to have something we can do in that direction, though

@Felthry It became really hard for me too, until we started revisiting How We Created Things As A Kid. 'cuz it was so much more intuitive, y'know? My imagination ran wild and the itch was second nature

@Oneironott that might be hard for us--our memories of anything that far back are very broken and inaccessible, unfortunately

@Felthry That made me realize I was putting up really unnecessary bounds on What I Can Create and focusing way too much on, like, narrative-driven longer work?

*grins n' giggles* When I was a little kid, I'd make these faux, fantasy shop menus or letters from people in another world.

I too easily looked at that stuff and judged it as like... not even worth engaging in.

which is hilarious to me because video games have writers too and that's often literally what they do lol *shrugs*
