re: thoughts on Adobe

@owashii It has been long speculated that Adobe intentionally does not pursue private (non-business) piracy of their software because it enables new generations of users to learn how to use their convoluted and complicated applications, which enables them to future-proof their monopolies

Here's one such article on the subject from 2018:

@mawr @owashii@plush.city Autodesk seems to do a lot of the same stuff as Adobe, too. I don't think they ever pursue private piracy either, and they provide their stuff for free to students

re: thoughts on Adobe

@Felthry @owashii I genuinely support it as a business model tbh-- it only gets shady when you have a distinct monopoly in the industry, because monopolies can afford to bleed like that

Capitalism sucks :bloboh:

re: thoughts on Adobe

@mawr @owashii@plush.city yeah it's a good business practice, to only charge the big corporate users for it

it's bad when they do it as a monopoly thing, or as a way to exclude people because your software is obtuse and only the people who pay ridiculous prices for it get support

@mawr @owashii@plush.city Keysight's gone completely off the deep end with it too, they charge a yearly fee (which is several thousand dollars) just to have access ot any sort of tech support or repair services (the latter of which also cost extra money) for their hardware (which itself costs tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars)
