How many of 100 dog owners (circa 1980) said their dog was named Spot?

@captpackrat I remember the goat!

I've never known a dog named Spot, or anyone who said they did. Nor Rover, Fido, or Rex. I'm mildly interested how these got to be stereotype names and why they've stayed stereotype names if they haven't been common since 1885 or whatever.

@Austin_Dern @captpackrat

Famous associations. Abraham Lincoln's dog was named Fido. The dog from the Dick and Jane books was named Spot. Not sure about the others.

@Felthry @KinkyTurtle Oh, now, I did know that at one point and forgot. Possibly a remote influence on Dick and Jane, at that.
