Some notes: the largest SNES games in terms of file size were Star Ocean and Tales Of Phantasia, both 6 MB. The current specs for my project allow for a “cartridge” size up to around 10-11 MB (total memory size is 16 but a lot of that is being set aside for internal use), so I think there’s not a whole lot to worry about there. Plenty of space.

@bj The SNES actually had a 16 MB memory space too, again with a handful of megabytes reserved for system stuff. So you're pretty much at parity with the SNES in terms of maximum possible cartridge size. (it was a little awkward with how the snes worked to use cartridges bigger than 4 MB, but it was definitely possible. you'd just need to bank switch more often)
