food pop culture thought :at_request: (includes meat)

okay, here's our definition of a meme food: people will make jokes where the joke is that you will unironically eat a massive amount of this food.

obviously, bacon. unambiguous meme food.

also? garlic. people will be like "the recipe said two cloves so I put in two heads". that's meme food.

are there other meme foods? what are some other meme foods?

meta note about food pop culture thought

to be clear: these foods become memes because they are tasty - it's not, like, an accident

but also our (USAian) culture is super unhealthy about food, and therefore most people are used to the idea thst there are only certain foods they're allowed to be gaga for

so we wanna say two things.

(a) you're allowed to be hype for any food, including meme foods

(b) you're allowed to be indifferent or negative about any food, including meme foods

don't judge other people's food
don't yuck their yum

right, anyway, we have just been informed that pumpkin spice is a meme food, which it absolutely is

more food pop culture (non-prescription drug mention)

- bread, especially garlic bread
- coffee
- cheese?

still more food pop culture (non-prescription drug mention)

- candy corn
- also realizing that we might have made this list very USAian because someone said that Germany has gingerbread

(....realizing we haven't had gingerbread in like five thousand years)

- 🎒

the food pop culture continues (non-prescription drug mention)

- tea (esp. if British)
- rice
- pasta
- chocolate

the food pop culture just will not stop

- chili peppers and associated hot sauces

the food pop culture, still trucking along

from the regional files:
- Old Bay Seasoning (in Maryland)

a couple more late additions to the food pop culture

- macaroni and cheese specifically
- pickles
- chicken nuggets

we really need to stop adding to this list and put in a grocery order

food pop culture, alcohol abuse aside

*sighs*
- beer
- wine
- margaritas probably

we can't deny that the trope is still there, even if we don't like it

food pop culture (meat, usually)

forgot to include these

- tacos

possibly more as a stock food to use in jokes than as a food to talk about eating massive amounts of, but I thiiink maybe people talk about eating lots of them sometimes...? we remember Stephen Colbert getting cheers when doing a bit about eating tacos, so it might fit our definition

- 🎒 💭 🌮

food pop culture, a surprise late addition

- hummus (SWANA and Jewish, we are informed)
