if you tell a visual artist you can't draw, most of them will be adamant that anyone who can physically write on a piece of paper can draw
this is because you're talking to someone who couldn't draw any better than you at one point. you're saying something every artist has to learn is bullshit in order to do their passion

@heatherhorns_lite i feel like the statement "i can't draw" should be understood in the same way as "i can't play accordion" or "i can't speak armenian"--not a statement of impossibility, but a statement of "i haven't put the time into learning this skill"

@Felthry i hear that as the intended message, but i think the effective one is often "i'm discouraged to ever try." Like, considering the contexts in which it would be said.
i totally admit i realize people saying that don't want a screed, it's just...hard not to respond with one. when it's something you're like, really into. it feels like such a primitive need to me
