i'm curious how modern day esperanto speakers deal with the weird gender thing (i heard about it being a huge problem when the language was first created but i don't know how it's been handled since)

@q_lum with an Esperanto name, sometimes I feel sorta awkward about that gender stuff it's got, as if I'm advocating for the language with my name or somethin even tho its sorta not ideal with regards to the gender stuff

@FragileVal @q_lum oh huh, i think i vaguely remember you mentioning the name thing. are you like, an active speaker? do you have any insight into how people deal with this nowadays? :x

@bossposs @q_lum I am not an active speaker, so I've got no insight. I'd just figured that since Esperanto was conlang designed for like, intercultural communication, it wouldn't be cultural appropriation to use it instead of a typical English name?

@FragileVal @q_lum you could call yourself la .valoras. and have a lojban name too 💦

@FragileVal @bossposs there are lots of cool esperanto speakers out there ^O^ i'd never judge someone for liking a thing that has problems
