You know how I was talking about not doing fan games? I was able to completely remove my Chrono Break idea from Chrono as a series and I already have something that completely stands on its own, with a battle system that combines and enhances those from CT and CC, and a cast that really doesn't need any returning characters.
Sure, it meant cutting a lot of cool ideas about the way Chrono loose ends could be tied up, but the original ideas are enough on their own for a game.
@bluestarultor yep, you're just asking for trouble doing fangames for corporate franchises
@FreyaManibrandr Yep. *Especially* anything Nintendo has their fingers in. I did some recent posts on it, but decided against linking this one to them.
TBH as much as I had some really cool and well-thought ideas that would have incorporated the existing characters, and unlike most Chrono fangames I understood and respected the lore (seriously, so many just wanted to undo Chrono Cross), I'd much rather do something cool for myself than a victory lap for someone else.
@FreyaManibrandr Aside from that, I really would like for actual Chrono Break to happen before any of the original team are in the ground. I know Chrono Team was tied up for years in FF11 and half the leads work for various other companies now, but I can dream.
@OchotonidKnight @bluestarultor I don't think they were.
@bluestarultor @FreyaManibrandr It's definitely a worthwhile play, at least if you were to ask me; admittedly it's not a game for everyone, and the hoops and installations and downloads you have to jump through to even start is understandably enough to dissuade many.
But if you asked me what the most important game of my life was, it's Final Fantasy XI hands-down.
Granted, my all-time favorite game is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, but being runner-up to something that good is nothing to sneeze at.
@FreyaManibrandr @OchotonidKnight I wasn't. There's a reason they were tied up. MMOs are massive, complex beasts. It's why they never had any time to do anything else.
And while I never played myself, there were a lot of people who loved that thing.
