I feel safe admitting on this masto: that I did not understand why 64K was so important when I was young and only now do I realize that its because the IBM PC DMA controller could only index 16 bits...

because no one else here was alive when the the 8237 was in a running computer...

@Fuego Ran across this on the FTL, and oh, it brought back memories. The first computer I used was an IBM PC 5150 back in the early 80s. I still have the manuals we got with it. :)
