I think accents are *fascinating*, because they're an insight into a speaker's first language - basically an indication of "how do you teach English in *this* language, and still have it make any sense?"

F'rex if a waitress asks me "you like sharimp?" that means "do you like" makes no sense in Cantonese (ok, "DO you like" sounds weird once I get past always having heard that) and that the combination SH+ other consonant doesn't exist, that there's always a vowel as a spacer.
