So tell me if I’m being culturally arrogant and need to shut up.
Okay so the obvious question; the Aztecs were badass and there were lots more of them than Spanish troops. How did they lose?
1) Aztec warfare was ridiculously genteel for including human sacrifice; all about taking prisoners. And while they were trying to fight “fair” they were up against veterans of the nastiest, no holds barred wars Europe had seen. So literally knights fighting barbarians.

The guns mattered less than you’d think since there was limited ammunition for them and Aztecs had ranged weapons practically as good. Slings are cheap and nasty in any era.
3) like a lot of empires Aztec conquests left plenty of people eager for new allies to help break loose, and here were some. So it wasn’t just a tiny number of Spanish dudes; it was a tiny number of Spanish dudes and a lot of locals with local style armament.
That’s all I wanted to say.

This rant brought to you by Columbus Day- the big point I wanted to make is that the completely vicious bloodthirsty savages were the Europeans - and by Doppelsoeldner at Ren Faire, since that’s the German response to how to break a pike formation.
