What I don't quite understand is how Monty Python and the Holy Grail which hit theaters in 1975, winds up being such a perfect parody of Excalibur, which was released in 1981.

Did John Boorman get so pissed off by Holy Grail's ending that he went "well fuck this noise I'm going to make this exact film only with actual resolution and, I guess, character arcs as long as I'm here"?
