I really should NOT spend more on used books but I have a weird fondness for this one plane I used to work on. (For a change this is not actually P51s!)
@Leucrotta $13 isn't much money. Sounds like a good buy!
@Leucrotta What one plane would that be? Not being a P51 doesn't narrow the field a whole lot.
@GraySpots Lockheed U-2, tbh I only worked with their cameras.
@Leucrotta This guy? Can you tell more about why you were working on U-2 cameras or is it all classified?
@GraySpots A big feature of the U-2 is a huge analog camera, and the company I worked for contracted for the cameras. I didn't touch any of the really interesting tech here; I was part of the inspection team.
While I *did* test circuit boards, the big thing I did was ensure all tools for testing/unloading/constructing/repairing cameras cycled through their own inspection and repair throughout the year. (Aerospace regulations are really finicky.)
@GraySpots
The facility had a lot of security, but not to the point where I've ever held government clearance. Despite the CIA's association, NASA and I think NOAA use U-2s and for all I know none of the cameras I worked on ever saw military application.
It was a neat gig, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat, though it's actually part of how my politics moved further left.
@Leucrotta I would think there are more civilian-leaning applications? Especially with all the maps and observations being made for climate tracking.
also in used bookstore news, this is the first time I specifically bought a TTRPG I already own to have an extra copy to lend players. I feel bad about spending $13 on something I already own BUT it's literally my favorite, it's OOP, and reprints don't seem available either.
