You know.
I'm old enough to remember when AIDS hit badly enough that you couldn't just pretend it didn't exist, even outside Atlanta (especially outside Atlanta).
I hadn't figured out I was Queer so the only things I knew about LGBTIA+ folks were Gay male stereotypes thanks to movies and being called slurs myself, and this was long before I found out some of the worst about the Reagan Administration, so I was definitely not that open minded.
But I saw, heard people absolutely *delighted* that men were dying who... let's see, had ass sex? Were effeminate, loved showtunes and hated manual labor? I mean yeah I was supposed to dislike that, but none of these things especially seemed to deserve a slow nasty death sentence. The good guys sure were petty, vicious and mean. Their god who really wanted this and was apparently delighted to damn them afterwards, didn't come across as a great guy either.
It's just horrifying to me that the same fucking mindset from there and then, is still very much around now.
