@Leucrotta Back at one gig, coworker sharing the large cubicle would keep NPR on the radio, at a restrained volume. Worked out quite well - somewhat informative, and surprisingly non-distracting. Though I will forever have the "Pee Are Eye.. Public Radio.. International" cue in my memory. =:)
@porsupah idk; I honestly don’t like listening to NPR most of the time. Too much of a loud reminder the world is shit and I am, as an officially worthless nuisance animal, my happiness and future are in constant danger so important rich people can change the world.
@Leucrotta That's fair. It's frustrating, to say the least, how much of the most easily available media is, at best, dedicated to preserving the status quo.
If net.radio is an option, I'll more than happily recommend CHIRP Radio out of Chicago - plenty of varied music (what depends on the DJ), no ads beyond the occasional local PSA. Only frustration is as they do run a low power transmitter as well, they have to abide by FCC rules on expletives, so tracks like Bones UK "Filthy Freaks" can't be played. (Though occasionally a DJ will quickly fade the "offending" words out =:)
@porsupah it isn’t; either we have a physical radio on here, or there’s nothing. It’s a big change from my previous gig, where being able to listen to music via YouTube was a lot of how I held it together.
