It's horrifying how nearly all prejudice exists largely as a distraction (one which, if you're in a scapegoated group or close, you cannot afford to ignore) from how we face very real problems, the solutions to which practically always involve rich people giving up money.

How many millions of people are being hurt right now because someone wanted a tax break?

less oblique, re racism

The most extreme example;

An *entire ethnic group* exists solely because rich people wanted to cheap out on agricultural labor. Since that time, their descendants and all their ancestors have been abused in all sorts of incredible manners all because someone wanted to make money - either by capitalizing on the desperation of poor Blacks (eg, how did Harlem become a thing?), or offering anti-Blackness as a consolation prize to mistreated non-Blacks (the beginning of "How Long? Not Long").

And my own people? Wealthy people realized that by barring us from land ownership and military service, they got rid of a potentially hostile faction, alienated non-Jews and Jews, and *yet* maintained the advantage of literate, desperate people who'd serve as their doctors and bankers, successfully blamed for both. Conveniently timed exiles and any hint of tolerance sent my ancestors hither and yon until they wound up in this country, where we are dismissed as the people who secretly have all the power and all the money when in reality we have none (and there's more, but that rant would alienate people, and I don't feel like it now).
