Suddenly I realized why the AI stuff pissed me off so hardcore.
Pro AI arguments basically add up to "YOU PEOPLE are all rich powerful elitists, fuck your creators' rights, fuck your survival, you need to be brought down by something which happens to make me look awesome/save me money."
What marginalized group does that version of artists sound like to you?
@SnapHappyFox That's another thing. There are lots of things which could be automated that would help artists - but no artist has been sold AI to replace the marketing and administration they don't enjoy, rather than the artmaking process which is so vital. *None* of this has been sold to artists. It's been entirely sold as a "this is BETTER than you, this will and should REPLACE you, and YOU are the problem for holding back PROGRESS."
@Leucrotta I don't see why it has to replace artists at all. I still want commission work from artists at the same rate I did before. AI art will never truly replace artists because even if AI can replicate somebody's style, it's still artificial to me. I like commissioning artists. The only thing that's really changed for me is that I can now produce reference images quickly when asking for a commission and have AI assist me to make my own art on occasion.
It's mainly a novelty to me. I like seeing what it can produce. I still value artists the same way I did before. Maybe even a bit more because now because they produce "Authentic art".
@Leucrotta ultimately I like AI art tools and they're probably here to stay. If capitalism wasn't so unkind to artists and other creatives by demanding that they earn the right to live using their skills, it wouldn't even be an issue. People are upset that AI art is interrupting the income stream they've managed to eek out of their passions. But honestly if we didn't let people starve to death just because they weren't exploitable as wage slaves then people would be better off.
The reaction to automation should be "Hooray, now I can use my freed up time to do what I want" not "Shit, now I need to find another source of income.".
I hate Capitalism for forcing artists to make money off their art or die, not AI art.
