Do things feel more hopeless now then they did in the 80s because they’re that bad; because a combination of stuff made the 80s look easier (dissociated for a lot of the decade, right leaning media downplayed AIDS, the Cold War, recession, racism, I was not aware of a greater emotional prosperity at odds with my life); because I’m now old enough that poverty, lost dreams and decades of poor political situation add up to burn out; or is it a combination of all these?
@Leucrotta or maybe just more ignorance about how bad things really are, just in general
@wolfe we were definitely being told everything was great and blocked from hearing different opinions, no matter how bad things actually were by comparison.
@Leucrotta i wasn't alive during the 80s, but i feel like watching/reading/listening to things from the 80s (and 90s?), there was, at the very least, more optimism back then? idk maybe i'm bullshitting
