That's a real thing incidentally. They sent King threats about publicizing his extramarital affairs, and what I've been told is they just wanted him to shut up, and King took it as them wanting him to commit suicide, and at that point he figured he was living on borrowed time anyway, so it didn't actually get him to shut up.
