For me to utterly hate someone they need to have a smug sense of superiority to me, enough that doing as they please is its own justification regardless of how many people it hurts, they need to be beyond ever facing accountability like a 16 year old redditor saying any slur he wants b/c it’s officially a joke, and they need to be so remote from me and my experience that I literally can’t see anything sympathetic in them as humans.
And by definition this is only true of the horrifyingly rich.
I’m thinking here about Musk, with whom I have less in common than with my abusers, most neo-Nazis, my landlords, or Christian clergy. In contrast to Bob Iger who doesn’t seem to have entirely connected his vast wealth to someone else making it possible. And about the brief moment in 2020 when Trump was a fat old man who didn’t want to die, rather than some completely alien disease which should have been eradicated in the 80s.
