apparently The Ring cycle gets me to I Want to Break Free gets me to Queen gets me to Flash Gordon, which is basically also opera with manly Gay men and valkyries kinda

@chimerror I mean both Siegfried and Flash basically show up being blond and not terribly bright with a big neon sign saying THE HERO pointing at 'em. I don't think you can really make a point for Wotan being comparable to Ming aside from punishing his daughter (and even then Wotan doesn't want to really and Ming is like OH FSCK YES GET THE BORE WORMS).
@chimerror I've NEVER seen the complete Ring thanks to how hugely long it is. I know basically what happens in each installment, which should be easy to find. Again, I really like Loren Maazel's "Ring Without Words" adaptation for just how spectacular Wagner's music is in places.
Flash Gordon though? That's a must see. Basically; in the late 70s everyone wanted to cash in on Star Wars. Except instead of making say Alien, DeLaurentis produces uh... space RHPS.
@Leucrotta I actually don't know too much besides the very basics of both stories!
I've wanted to watch the ring cycle for a while, especially since the Seattle Opera holds it regularly
