So there’s a noteworthy cartoonist, George Herriman, mixed race with passing privilege when being even distantly Black invited shocking abuse. One way he “passed” was he always wore a hat to cover his tight curls.
Okay, BUT how did that even work? Early 20th c Americans were assholes about hats, too.
