Rant, Furries

The furry fandom has an incredible problem with privilege, and recognizing just how much privilege plays a role in access to fursuits conventions, and commissions.

That those who access conventions often inappropriately co-opt the language of mental illness to describe the deprivation of those events from their life, demonstrates how insidious this level of overt privilege is. It is often the providence of those in power to co-opt the language of the "other."

@Pliio PCD is easier to admit than addictive withdrawal. And any festival or peak experience is gonna have addictive withdrawal.

re: Rant, Furries

@Motodrachen I agree it is possible, but for most people they would not fulfill any of the three main criteria for an addiction.

But comparing the temporary loss of rapport which came from an event, of which attending is a /privilege/, to the permanent inability for a person's brain to reach an average baseline a brain ought to is ignorant at best and downright ableist at worst.

PCD is not a mental illness. If it was, it'd just be... depression. Or an addiction. No special.

@Motodrachen
I admit bias as an extremely underprivileged person, that it basically sounds like, "oh woe is me, for I do not get to do this extremely rare and expensive thing literally 24/7, something less than 1% of furries can do and most people can never afford to do, however shall I live?"

And the people who attend like 6+ conventions a year as a hobby do take up space from novel attendees, and might even qualify as an addiction.
