re: ableism, #actuallyautistic
@lemememeringue I'm reading these and I'm feeling like I need to Actually set up a Faerie hollow for parents to bring their autistic kids so they can hang with a bunch of autistic adults and understand that there's Cool People with this condition out there.
Like crazy witchdoctor type folks who can see the Soul everyone else can't.
re: ableism, #actuallyautistic
@Motodrachen for so many of those kids, and heck even some of the adults, I was the only autistic person over the age of ten they'd ever known. I didn't realise how important that was until it occurred to me that /I/ didn't know any adults like me either. if you need a fae for your hollow, I'll gladly volunteer
re: ableism, #actuallyautistic
@Motodrachen honestly the most rewarding experience in my autistic adult life was my brief stint as a teacher's aide at a daycare because there were multiple wonderfully troublesome autistic kids in my class. my favourite was a 4yo who never said a word but would dig his head into my shoulder and make whale sounds. we got along swimmingly.
