pol, economy worries
As alarmist headlines come out about a looming recession in Germany and economists start panicking about the US, I was reminded of a segment from that Jon Bois series on MMA (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGyLuUI4b0s) about how we don't really talk about how a lot of people never got over '08.
Like, I woke up and read headlines that a new recession could be hitting the US in a year or so and my reaction wasn't even fear, it was just "oh. cool."
pol, economy worries
Not because it wouldn't affect me but because the last decade of vaunted "economic recovery" feels like bullshit. And it's an angle of the millennial/gen z/job market that never gets talked about. That on top of everything else, "apply yourself, work hard at your job, nothing comes easy etc." all feels like bullshit because none of this is directly in our control.
Work hard in our revitalized economy, and maybe you'll be lucky enough to see it happen again.
pol, economy worries
We talk about how the current state of things burns people out, but there's not as much talk about how 2008 fucked us all up and how that's having an effect *today*.
Some of us never finished school because of 2008. Young adulthood means something completely different for a generation that had the rug yanked out from under them. A lot of us don't trust employers, and a lot of us *never will*, because our lives were destroyed a decade ago and nothing changed.

@Naux You're absolutely correct.
I'm more or less dropping out of my Dream after a Decade of searching for a job that wasn't Hostile, abusive, or exploitative.
I'm gonna work at an Auto Parts store or something next, because I know what to expect. Trying to use my Degree feels like a pointless endeavor.
My student debt is unpaid. I live in the Ghetto, and my last job nearly poisoned me to death, in spite of repeated complaints.
I've learned to live simply, to treasure my interpersonal relationships, and my very Poverty has forced me to become a better person, however.
Double edged sword. I now judge my Parents generation on their faults, because a lot of the emotional stuntedness we see in the Boomers is because they grew up Spoiled Rotten.
