Modern discourse has caught up with Delphy's "Rethinking Sex and Gender" (1993) in a lot of ways, but her criticisms of muddled thinking around sex, gender, and the gender binary are still current:

"It is not possible to imagine the values of a future egalitarian society as being the sum, or a combination, of existing masculine and feminine values, for these values were created in and by hierarchy. So how could they survive the end of hierarchy?"

"I would say that perhaps we shall only really be able to think about gender on the day when we can imagine nongender. But if Newton could do it for falling apples,we should be able to do it for ourselves."

@ghost_bird I've seen more genders than you folks could imagine.
Hell, I tried on half of them. Ended up having to carve out my own.

Nongender is coming.
