FOSTA/SESTA, sex work, positive news

so for a while i've been thinking "why doesn't someone in Australia say "fuck off" to fosta/sesta and set up a backpage equivalent?"

turns out, they did! Assembly4 in Melbourne made a Mastodon based twitter alternative called Switter (assemblyfour.com/switter) and and advertising platform too (tryst.link/about)

you can support them here: assemblyfour.com/donate

and their website is here: assemblyfour.com/

@smouldery I don't recall what exactly, but I remember there being some problems with switter that resulted in large portions of the fediverse blocking the domain. I think it was something to do with the fact that the instance allowed NSFW icons, which are one of the few things that _can't_ be CW'd, and CWing NSFW content is basic courtesy here.

@Rosemary I mean, I'm not saying y'all should federate with switter or anything (for the reason you mentioned potentially, and having a link to content that hosts sex work related content might be legally difficult if you're an American or use American hosting) but that shouldn't devalue them as standalone services, just don't federate with them.
