... ok... WHAT THE HELL...

Woke up to my compy being off, and I didn't turn it off... PS4 was still on, because I had left it downloading a file.

... compy won't turn on... both are plugged into the same power box...

!!!PANIC!!!

I have it figured out, but... frig...

There are two sides to this power box. One side has a battery backup, which is the side that the compy and screen are plugged into... the other does not. The battery back-up side is dead.

I have absolutely no idea why, but it is dead-dead, and none of the outlets on that side of the box work. I gotta check to see if there's a fuse for that side...

Compy and screen seem fine when plugged into the other side, so that was the major concern.

But what the hell, electronics?!?!?

@JulieSqveakaroo If this is a double-conversion type battery backup--the most reliable type to work in a power failure, but least efficient and reliant on the battery even when there is power available--it's possible the battery is dead and needs to be replaced.

@JulieSqveakaroo Of course, since the battery circuit will probably be fused separately from the rest of it, that's worth looking into first. A UPS is a useful thing to have, but they do have more failure modes than a simple surge protector.

@Rosemary

That is what my searches seem to indicate. This power box has a fail-safe state when the battery is dead-dead that won't let power go to any of the outlets connected to the battery.

I'm... actually glad that's there, now that I know it's there.

A new power box with safety features is a HELL of a lot cheaper than a new compy.

@JulieSqveakaroo No need to get a new UPS; every one we've ever seen has a replaceable battery. Just swap the battery out and you're good to go. Don't forget to properly recycle the old one.

@Rosemary

Not sure if this unit has a replaceable one... still need to look.

@JulieSqveakaroo If it isn't, look for a replaceable battery as a feature on your replacement unit. And if the existing one didn't have it, communication with the computer is a good bonus too--it's a nice feature to have, when the UPS can tell the computer that it's lost power, and the computer can do what it needs to do to safely shut down without losing your unsaved work.

@Rosemary

Fortunately, I had nothing actively happening on the compy when everything went dark, and the startup went without an issue.
