OH YEAH SPEAKING OF MOVIES: saw the new Pinocchio yesterday! not the Disney one, the Guillermo Del Toro one. it's real good. worth watching. wilds my shit out that we got two really good looking stop motion films this year, and they were both funded by fucking Netflix of all people
it is still ultimately Child Film For Children, but it sure doesn't pull any punches with "fascism, capitalism and the church all similarly force people into thinking of themselves as disposable objects by making them feel deeply ashamed of their own imperfections". which is a hell of a lot more than any Disney adaptation will ever say
"surely the fascists are portrayed through some sort of family friendly metaphor, right? like donkeys, or--"
no. it's a film set in italy. in the 40s. it's not a metaphor at all.
@irisjaycomics Mussolini's right there and he orders some deaths. Subtle it ain't, but we live in unsubtle times.
