@Soreth what did Gilese 710 ever do to you?
@starkatt Shell the inner system with comets in about a million years n..n;
@Soreth Yikes! It's close enough to give our Oort Cloud a bit of a kick?
@starkatt Possibly! On closest approach, in about a million years, it might pass within a light-year. Possibly half a light-year. Possibly ~13,000 AU. A little while after that, we might see some shakeups.
@starkatt K7, about .6 solar masses. Just swinging by to borrow a cup of sugar.
Models disagree on what exactly happens when it gets close to us, but we do know that it's probably going to be doing just that - https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.3847/2515-5172/aac2d0/meta
@Soreth I kinda want to figure out what velocity in km/s that translates to, but am not super wanting to jump on that math right now.
@starkatt Something like 14 kilometers a second, by my rough math.
@Soreth cool!
@Soreth I thought it'd be faster but like, this isn't the kind of thing I have an intuitive sense for :)
@starkatt It's a super big distance and a long time to arrive, it's pretty hard to have a head for that! Too many zeroes. :)
@Soreth New Friend!!
