hearing about other people's family experiences blows my mind because I regularly hear stuff like 'yeah it was just my parents really, we didn't have a lot of contact with my relatives' and that's totally alien to me
my close family growing up was like at least 10 people at any given point in time and my extended family would regularly turn out for 100+ person family reunions every couple of years
@hystericempress That's utterly wild to me - for most of my life growing up, my closest blood relative was a thousand miles away or more. The whole family hasn't been in the same place all at once since probably the seventies.
