So are Orcs and Goblins the same in Tolkien's universe? Because I'm used to thinking of them as pretty different.

@Sparrow I always thought of Schmegal as a goblin in the Tolkien universe, but I'm not well versed on the details of the actual lore. ^^;

@mawr I thought Schmegal was actually a human once? Until he was corrupted by the ring? Thought I might have just heard that somewhere.

@Sparrow He started out as a hobbit, but otherwise yeah; that's his origin story. I don't remember much about goblins in the original texts but it's also been a very, very long time since I struggled through them... so take that with a grain of salt. ^^;

@mawr Ah yeah, that sounds right. Haha same. I tried reading the Lord of the Rings trilogy when I was 13 or 14 but I just couldn't get into it. Maaaybe I'd have a better chance of finishing it now. I *did* struggle through Great Expectations successfully.
