The thing that leads to "Autism parents" lamenting the loss of their child when their child gets diagnosed autistic is the exact same thing and what leads to cis het parents lamenting the loss of their son/daughter when the kid comes out / begins transitioning.

Not sure what exactly the thing is, but it's the same.

@nautilee @Ylfingr @certifiedperson Pretty much this yes, speaking as someone who's been through both those wringers. Parent sets up unrealistic expectations of child, child fails to meet them, parent laments loss of a child they never actually had to begin with because they were too busy projecting their own ideals on their kid to actually pay any attention to their child beyond the level of 'are they performing to my expectations' in the first place.
