okay so don't get me wrong, people fleeing snouts is only the right thing to do at this point especially now that everyone involved with making the place into what it was has rightfully said 'we want nothing to do with this anymore', but at the same time
this whole mess didn't start there - why the fuck are we letting monads, etc continue on totally unscathed? like it was some blatant fucking clout chasing going on there and they too should get to deal with the PR nightmare
meta time? meta time.
@kistaro which is frankly completely and utterly fucked, and also *isn't this the exact dynamic a bunch of us left Twitter for to begin with*
meta time? meta time.
@Thaminga I would have loved to stay there, but seeing as the admins were just shitting on us, and they say they'll keep it up until the end of the month but I don't know if I trust them
meta time? meta time.
@Thaminga because instances have no legal way to exert power over each other unless the admins have some interest in caring about what anybody else thinks; lots of admins have made it clear they don’t. Defederation is appropriate but will always result in some angry local users, making it more difficult to do- especially when the admin is at risk of getting screenshot dunked and generally slandered by other instance mods with similar attitudes for doing so, as Mawr discovered.
As usual, people with abusive attitudes have a substantial advantage over people with compassionate attitudes, because appeals to empathy are going to make every act challenging when everything upsets someone - except for people who think it’s funny to upset people and are proud of it.
