I must have been like 16 when I saw The Sum of All Fears but the absurdity of the opening scene is still etched in my mind. An Israeli pilot adjusts a photo of his family right before getting shot down... On the way to nuke fucking Damascus!
Thanks for telling me who to feel sympathy for here so clearly Mr. director.

Yeah, that bothered me, too. The book was better. The books are way more interesting.

Clancy served as executive producer on the film, and regarding the changes from his book, jokingly introduced himself in the commentary track on the DVD release as “the author of the book that he [director Phil Alden Robinson, who is present with Clancy] ignored”. Nevertheless, he complained about technical inaccuracies throughout the film in the commentary
