It's terrible because a lot of it is poor understanding on behalf of the owners.
With a wolf-dog, you never know how much instinct is going to be wolf, how much dog. You have to know how to interact with both.
A puppy growing up among others in a wolf pack learn quickly how hard to bite in what makes their litter mate yell out in pain, etc. -- humans don't give the same kind of training to wolf-dogs, and don't know how to handle a wolf-dog that cannot handle a small living space and boredom.
A lot of it's "stupid fucking humans".

Then you get into all the stories of abuse I read growing up, how wolves were treated when being used to breed for wealthy men (but not as valued as big cats in the same places, so were often starved)
And the PTSD a lot of wolves went through.
It's horrific what people will do to animals they don't give a shit about and refuse to understand. They'll be snapped at by a wolf in agony and say "That's just how they say they love you"
