is there any way to get blender to only show thing within a certain area? we're working on something to go on an avatar's head, but this avatar's mesh isn't very well optimized, so we want blender to only load the head.

@Jnetwork you can hide a selected object by pressing H. Or alternatively, SHIFT-H to hide everything not selected, and ALT-H to unhide everything that was hidden.

In vertex mode, selected vertices will get hidden instead of objects.

@Zauberin @Jnetwork if you just want to hide part of a mesh you can assign parts you want hidden to a vertex group and use a Mask modifier

If it's rigged you might be able to use the mask modifier on the head bone vertex group that already exists

@Gulfie @Zauberin and if the lag continues anyway we'll just delete everything but the head and reimport it later

@Zauberin hmmm, looks like they reappear when we don't have the object open in edit mode. and the thing we're making is a different object so that we don't accidentally select part of the wrong thing

@Jnetwork @Zauberin Hit the "local only" key, I think it's called? We dunno what it defaults to, but you should be able to find it in the operator search too.

It hides everything except the current object.

@IceWolf @Zauberin we were using part of one object as a reference for another

@IceWolf someone else answered our question earlier so no big deal
