re: extortion, libertarians
Around ~15 years ago, I heard a story on the radio about how some libertarians were pushing for blackmail and extortion to be decriminalized, and opponents pointed out that businesses would take advantage of this in order to threaten money out of people.
And they were right! This is exactly what Charter Spectrum is doing! And they're not the only business who tries to pull this crap. Usually, such businesses wind up on the wrong side of the law.
re: blackmail, libertarians
Oh, and I remember a decade ago on Google+ I once brought up the news story about how libertarians were trying to decriminalize blackmail and how ridiculous I thought it was.
This resulted in me getting dogpiled by a bunch of actual libertarians who were basically telling me I was wrong and that blackmail should be legal -.-
re: blackmail, libertarians
Actually, it was just blackmail the libertarians wanted legalized, now that I think about it more. And doing a quick check, threatening false report or false testimony against someone for money definitely qualifies as blackmail under the law.
