@artfulreggie @pendragon I am still surprised this is a thing that needs to be said. I assumed there had to be like a dozen really smarmy think pieces about it and yet....
@artfulreggie It really does feel that way at times. Like a litmus test of how aware a person is about things.
and dont even get me started on the freezes and how THAT is framed.
@ZiaMacPine I believe they're aware on some level.
They think they can elevate themselves above these issues (forever) with several hundred thousand dollars.
Then they find out what a lack of integrity in the social system TRULY means over the course of a lifetime.
Maybe if they'd a few million dollars though... 🤔
I think it's a good litmus test of people who have either consciously or unconsciously bought into the myth of capitalism-- that EVERYTHING is a zero-sum game you can "win".
lol, ded
@pendragon @ZiaMacPine @jakebe hoping for a swift and not-too-early death, babyyy~~~
Maybe I can take up skydiving in my golden years... Wait, it costs HOW much to charter a plane? Seriously can't catch a break.
(Sorry, bad humor is how I cope with this existential dread because I've seen this ending far too often.)
lol, ded
@pendragon @ZiaMacPine theme for the times~

(But also because a certain cat keeps sending me clips of Guillermo from WWDS saying, "it you". (And, honestly, he's not wrong on several levels. ♥))
@pendragon @artfulreggie @jakebe You do make a good point there about needing a support network and I don't begrudge people moving for that necessity.
I do begrudge some people for choosing to move when they have other options and buying into this nonsense and their moving there being used as further propaganda to support the outlook. If that makes any sense.
@artfulreggie Yeah I see your point. Aware in the sense that they know something nebulously "bad" happens to other people and not being aware it will impact them because they're not exceptional.
I don't know if it is so much the zero-sum aspect so much as believing they are obviously the "winners"
@ZiaMacPine @pendragon "Sure, sure. BUT, if -I- can just get myself on a comfy perch, -I- will be protected."
"Moving to Texas" can be a reliable litmus test for this weirdly libertarian exceptionalism.
But like, who wants to live in a place with strained social services? No one can maintain gas generators and Tesla batteries in their golden years during what are now annual freezes.
