Found an extremely damaged phone while walking dog. Screen interface is wrecked. Any suggestions on ethical moves at this point?
@artfulreggie I'm going to charge it and see if anyone calls in the next few days.
Though, I am very hesitant to connect unknown devices into a computer still you're right it is likely my best option.
@artfulreggie sorry I dont understand the reference.
@ZiaMacPine “Mr Robot” was a show (staring Rami Malek picture here) that aired on USA for several seasons about a hacker.
“Hackerman” was a sight gag from a short independent Swedish film in a scene lampooning how infosec is often depicted being magical.
Mr Robot is known for depicting the boring nature of hacking creating juxtaposition for those in the know.
@ZiaMacPine ALSO— Mr Robot popularized “rubber duckies” which are modified USB devices that pose as harmless devices but actually run keyboard emulation software enabling them to execute commands as the user when plugged in.
Like plugging in a keyboard with pre-programmed keystrokes someone would type like a ghost.
@artfulreggie ah!!! Thank you for explaining
@ZiaMacPine Attempt to charge it and maybe try connecting it to a computer to see if any identifying information is revealed. Otherwise there probably isn't much to be done :/
