occasionally extremely sad that the PS2 homebrew scene has been so burned by GPL compliance issues that all the important tools which were once open-source have gone closed-source and are now sporadically maintained by people who are utterly burned out on it

you can get source for some, rather old, versions of Free MCBoot, but if you want the current version with bug fixes and support for booting from the internal HDD, that’s closed source baby and will never not be

what happens when, in 2008, your community console hack project is being sold by unscrupulous companies? you write this (likely unenforceable) license to replace the GPL, I guess

and when this license doesn’t work out? well, you pack it all in and release future versions without any source code, only passing it on to a single person for ongoing maintenance

it’s a real shame

an interesting thing is this license seemingly requires you to include *their splash screen, unmodified* in any projects which use any part of their project? even if you just wanted to borrow their input handling routine
